The retrospective live album "...Saturday Night, 'Round Ten" was released in September 1999 to celebrate You Am I's tenth anniversary.
The tracks for the album were culled from three gigs recorded over the "Technicolour Weekend" in July 1999 in a cold and bleak Casa del Resaca warehouse in Richmond, which You Am I tore apart at the seams.
"...Saturday Night, 'Round Ten" was also the first You Am I release featuring David Lane on lead guitar, who was previously transcribing guitar tabs for the bands website.
The band took the occaison to rework some of their classics. The funk workout intro and breakdown to Minor Byrd, the pedal steel counterpoint on an upbeat redition of Heavy Heart and there's also a Bo Diddley improv gee-up before Stray. There's also an unlisted track - a cover of the tune Ramblin' Rose which was made famous by MC5.
Thankfully, the band chose to release the raw live recordings rather than doing any overdubs. "I still aint gotten over meeting the guy who did alot of "post-event" backing vocals on Kiss Alive 1 & 2," quips Tim.
As close as the album comes, nothing can quite match the sheer energy of a live You Am I performance - get along and see it for yourself.
Initial pressings came with a limited edition bonus disc, Ignorance and Vodka featuring a 15 minute CD ROM biography of the band, and 5 new studio tracks recorded during #4 Record sessions.
The album debuted at number seven on the national ARIA chart.
